Border Patrol Agent Vincent Hampel walks away after handing gallon jugs of water to a group of 30 people who were apprehended in Pima County, Arizona, 23 miles north of the Mexican border on Monday, August 1, 2005. The group had crossed four days earlier. They had run out of water the night before and agents estimated that they still had at least three days of walking to reach their destination. Hampel was riding in the helicopter that discovered the group.
